SCOTT POHL WINS $20,000 AT SUMMER MINI-ELIMINATOR

Las Vegas, NV: Scott Pohl, a 41 year old right handed bowler from Burnsville, MN won the 2010 Summer Mini-Eliminator and its $20,000 top prize. Scott rolled a fantastic 276 game in the championship shootout to defeat the senior division champion Sam Carter of Ben Lomond, CA (224) and 210 & under handicap champion Bob Godden of Las Vegas, NV (189). Sam earned $10,000 for his runner-up position while Bob won $7,500 for third place.

All three bowlers in the final shootout, which brings together the champions of the three Mini-Eliminator qualifying divisions, were Super Bye winners which guaranteed them $4,000 and only 1 round away from the championship shootout. The three bowlers that were eliminated in the semi-final round, earning $4,000, were David Haynes of Las Vegas (49 & under), Jorge Siegrist of Mexico (senior) and John Wiley Jr, of Charlotte, NC (210 & under handicap).

At the Summer Mini several other champions were crowned. Les Shirwindt (senior) of Las Vegas, NV won the Lane #1 Shootout by defeating Richard Samson (210 & under) of Camarillo, CA 265-219. Les earned $5,000 for winning the shootout while Rich took home $2,500. There were also 3 Early Bird Champions crowned during Mini-Eliminator week each earning $1,000. The Early Bird Champions were 210 & under champion, Dustin Keener, Cleveland, GA, Senior Champion, Ed Roberts, Braintree, MA, and 49 & under Champion, Greg Velarde of West Covina, CA.

Over 1,300 entries were recorded during tournament week and more than $250,000 in cash and prizes were paid out. The 2010 Summer Mini enjoyed an 11% increase in the number of bowlers from the previous year with 47 states represented and 13 different countries. The next Mini will be the 2011 Winter Classic which will be hosted by the South Point in Las Vegas in early February. Exact dates will be announced shortly.
